about

Found Tape 4:

This tape was found (according to notes left by the unknown original curator) in a flea market during a visit to West Berlin in 1981 and is part of a box of cassette tapes found in a derelict Victorian terrace in Birmingham, UK.

On playing, the tapes seem to include various sound experiments, speech recordings, numbers stations, libary music etc the result of unnamed pirate radio stations, intercepted covert military/government transmissions or from a place where the future and past meet in the wash of the radio waves?

This tape contains a broadcast on Short Wave of the East German Techno Pop band 'Kehrschleife' translated as Terminal Loop, fronted by East Germany's equivalent to Ralf Hutter - Wolfgang Tilner-Barlow. This band was a state sponsored DDR propaganda tool to display to western ears the progressive and futuristic nature of East Berlin etc. Also contained on the tape, running parallel with the synthetic music is a series of Numbers Station broadcasts, why, it is not known but could this be Stasi broadcasts to agents hidden in West Berlin?
